Lewis, Full State Legislative Delegation Endorse Kate Lipper-Garabedian for State Senate

Senator Jason Lewis, Representatives Day, Donato, Haggerty, and Ultrino Unite Behind 5th Middlesex Candidate

MELROSE – State Senator Jason Lewis and State Representatives Mike Day, Paul Donato, Rich Haggerty, and Steve Ultrino have extended their unanimous endorsement of State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian in her campaign for the 5th Middlesex District State Senate seat. Lipper-Garabedian, a former teacher, education attorney, and public-school mom, who has represented the 32nd Middlesex District since 2020 and is running to succeed Senator Lewis who announced earlier this year that he will not seek re-election.

Senator Lewis’s endorsement carries particular significance: in backing Lipper-Garabedian, he is entrusting her with the work he has spent years building for the six communities of the 5th Middlesex District, three of which Lipper-Garabedian currently represents. Together with the support of the full House delegation, the announcement reflects confidence in Lipper-Garabedian’s record of effective legislating, deep community ties, and readiness to lead in the Senate.

“I am deeply grateful for the trust and support of Senator Lewis and my colleagues in the 5th Middlesex state delegation,” said Lipper-Garabedian. “Together, we have worked side-by-side to deliver resources to our constituents and state investments in our cities and towns and on legislation that has made a real difference in people’s lives. I am committed to carrying that work forward. I am also proud to have the support of Representatives Donato, Haggerty, Ultrino, and Day, who know these communities and fight for them every day. With their support and the support of residents across the District, I am more energized than ever to bring effective, experienced leadership to the State Senate at this critical moment.”

Lipper-Garabedian has represented the 32nd Middlesex District, comprised of the City of Melrose and parts of the City of Malden and Town of Wakefield, in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since March 2020. She currently serves as Chair of the House Committee on Ethics and has successfully championed legislation on nursing home and assisted living residence reforms, tax relief for renters, financial literacy in K-12 schools, and protections for immigrant communities. She has secured more than $3.33 million in earmarks for her District over the last two fiscal years. Prior to serving in the House, Lipper-Garabedian served as a Melrose City Councilor At-Large, as Chief Legal Counsel to the Massachusetts Executive Office Secretary of Education, and as a seventh-grade public school teacher. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School and a Melrose resident and mother of two.

The 5th Middlesex District includes the cities of Malden and Melrose and the towns of Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, and Winchester.
