Boys’ Tennis Defeats Ipswich, 4–1

By Emily Brennan

The Mystic Valley boys’ tennis team secured an impressive 4–1 victory over Ipswich on Monday afternoon at the Howard Park tennis courts in Malden. Although the Eagles dropped the No. 2 doubles match in a close three-set battle, they dominated the rest of the competition. Nathan Tessema and Miguel McCurdy bounced back after a tough first set to take the second, ultimately falling in a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a full third set.

In singles play, Mystic Valley swept all three matches. Jay Raj, Wes Cunningham and Ethan Co delivered strong performances, each winning in straight sets. Raj extended his undefeated streak with another commanding win at No. 1 singles.

The No. 1 doubles team of Eli DeTore and Ryan Co also played exceptionally well, earning a straight-sets victory.

With this win, Mystic Valley improves to 6–2 on the season and will face off against Lynnfield on Wednesday at 4 p.m. [after press deadline].
