By Dom Nicastro

From a record-smashing relay at states to senior nights on the hardwood and a clutch win on the ice, Revere’s winter programs packed plenty into a pivotal stretch of the season.

Everett–Revere–Mystic Valley–Malden boys hockey edges Lynn in tight 3-2 win

The Everett-Revere-Mystic Valley-Malden picked up a key 3-2 victory over Lynn on Friday night.

Everett’s Ben Saia led the way with two goals, while Mystic Valley’s Martino Carbo added the third. Assists came from Revere’s Frankie Annunziata, Malden’s Tommy Cronin, Mystic Valley’s Cam Macone and Malden’s Evan Souders. Goaltender Ray Blauvelt of Everett continued his strong stretch in net, turning in another steady performance to secure the win.

Revere boys basketball honors seniors, finishes season strong

The Revere High School boys basketball closed out its season by honoring senior tri-captains Devin Berry, Nick Rupp and Isaiah Llanos, along with seniors Zaney Kayembe, Jadrian Sanchez, Joseph Carlo and Omar Attabou.

Coach David Leary highlighted the team’s improvement from December into February, crediting the group for staying together and representing the community with pride.

Revere capped the season with a 64-31 win over Northeast, as Llanos erupted for a career-high 26 points, including four 3-pointers. Sophomore Charles Dobre added 13 points and four steals as the Patriots finished 5-15.

In a 64-59 loss to Medford, Llanos scored 13 points with three 3-pointers, Dobre added 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals, and Sanchez chipped in seven points and five rebounds.

Everett topped Revere, 74-35. The Patriots got a 10-point effort from Llanos and six points, 10 rebounds from junior forward Bryan David.

On Senior Night, Revere dropped a 46-45 heartbreaker to Somerville, a tightly contested game that came down to the final possession.

Revere boys track relay smashes school record, heads to nationals

The Revere High School boys indoor track turned in one of the most electrifying performances of the winter at the MIAA Division 2 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 11 at The Track at New Balance in Brighton.

The 4×200 relay team of Oliver Escobar (senior), Joey Angiulo (junior), Edwin Alarcon (senior) and Jeremy X (senior) finished second in 1:30.76, shattering their own school record of 1:33.27 set just weeks earlier at the MSTCA States Coaches’ Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The time now ranks sixth fastest in Massachusetts this season and qualified the quartet for the 2026 Nike Indoor Nationals in New York City. They are also likely to qualify for the 2026 New Balance Indoor Nationals in Boston pending review.

Coach David Fleming praised the group’s execution.

“The guys ran incredibly fast,” Fleming said. “Oliver got us off to a blazing start. As usual, he turned on the jets at about 30-40 meters and got us the early lead. Joey ran a great second leg. You could see how determined he was to keep us in front. Edwin, who keeps finding new gears, was able to extend the lead and hand off to Jeremy. And, when Jeremy gets the baton with a lead, it’s all over. It was just a matter of how fast. I could see with about 100 meters to go that it would be a fast time. With a big lead, it’s a credit to Jeremy that he pushed all the way through the finish line. The combined effort helped them take almost two and a half seconds off their record.

They work so well together, according to the coach, and everyone knows their role. “They take pride in their smooth handoffs,” Fleming said. “I can’t wait to see how they do at the All-State Meet.”

Revere girls track competes strong at Division 2 states

The Revere High School girls indoor track competed at the Division 2 state meet with several strong efforts.

Gemma Stamatopoulos led the Patriots with an eighth-place finish in the 600 meters in 1:42.58. Rania Hamdani followed closely with a 10th-place finish in 1:45.28, impressive considering it was only her fourth time running the distance.

Olivia Rupp represented Revere in the mile, placing 25th with a 5:49.21, near her season best.

Stamatopoulos, Hamdani and Rupp then teamed with Emma DeCrosta in the 4×800 relay, finishing 11th overall with a 10:41.47 — a 14-second personal record that moved them up seven spots from their pre-meet ranking.

The 4×200 relay of Danni Hope Randall, Jaliyah Manigo, Hamdani and Dayana Ortega ran 1:55.38, the second-fastest time in school history, just 0.18 off the school record. The quartet placed 17th and climbed five positions from their initial seeding.

Looking ahead, Ortega, Basma Sahibi and Zizi Kalliavas will compete at the MSTCA Pentathlon on Feb. 25. Stamatopoulos will run the 800 meters at Adidas Nationals on March 21, and the Sprint Medley Relay team of Randall, Kalliavas, Hamdani and Stamatopoulos will compete March 22.
