Disability Commission advocates for new accessible parking space

The City of Malden’s Disability Commission appeared before the Traffic Commission at its May meeting to advocate for an accessible parking space on Florence Street. The issue of better accessibility when parking for City Hall business was discussed at a previous Disability Commission meeting, and the Chair of the Commission, Amanda Belles, contacted Police Chief Glenn Cronin to work on a possible solution. The new space is located on Florence Street, on the City Hall side, and is more accessible in numerous ways: There is a curb cut right next to it as well as a crosswalk, and it’s on a flat surfaced street. In addition, no one will need to cross a busy street to access City Hall. The installation of this new parking spot was approved unanimously by the Traffic Commission. This was one of the many projects and initiatives put forward by the Disability Commission to make Malden more accessible for all.
