On October 27, Malden will host a mesmerizing evening of musical storytelling with the internationally acclaimed Ize Trio. The performance will take place at St. Paul’s Parish as part of the Maplewood Event Services Fall Series, in collaboration with The Gallery@57. Admission is free, thanks to generous sponsorship from the City of Malden.
The Ize Trio – composed of Californian pianist Chase Morrin, Cypriot percussionist George Lernis and Palestinian cellist Naseem Alatrash – will share original compositions that weave together narratives of immigration, resistance and resilience, honoring their diverse cultural backgrounds from Palestine, Cyprus and the United States. This unique fusion of musical traditions will be enhanced by guest vocalist Heiraza, a Turkish virtuoso who will join the trio for selected pieces, adding layers of Middle Eastern classics and contemporary music.
This concert offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience the trio’s innovative blend of improvisation and global jazz, which has been described as “an inspired, unique trio… each movement a new adventure” (Dee Dee McNeil, Making a Scene). The concert promises an evening of rich, cross-cultural storytelling and musical exploration that will transport listeners through various worlds and histories. The event will be followed by a reception – featuring exquisite creations from local Moroccan artist and pastry chef Salwa Gardaf – providing an opportunity for the audience to reflect and connect.
