The City of Malden’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is announcing an important update regarding access to the DPW Yard, which is located at 356 Commercial St. Beginning Monday, May 12, 2025, the DPW Yard will be closed to the public Monday through Friday until further notice. This temporary weekday closure is necessary to accommodate ongoing construction associated with the Malden River Works project – a major initiative aimed at improving stormwater management infrastructure, climate resilience and public access along the Malden River. No materials may be dropped off at the DPW Yard on weekdays for the duration of this closure. This includes yard waste, bulk items, recycling materials, and any other form of dumping.
Saturday access maintained for limited services
To support residents’ continued access to critical services, the City will provide limited Saturday-only access to the DPW Yard. Beginning Saturday, May 17, 2025, the yard will be open every Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. exclusively for:
⚬ Yard waste drop-off
⚬ Recycling of paper and cardboard
Residents are reminded that only these materials will be accepted on Saturdays during the construction period. Dumping of other materials or attempting to access the DPW Yard outside of designated hours is strictly prohibited.
Due to the nature and scope of the construction work taking place, public safety and regulatory compliance are top priorities. Rules regarding access, acceptable materials and operating hours will be strictly enforced. The City asks for the community’s cooperation and patience as we work to improve infrastructure that will benefit all Malden residents for generations to come.
About the Malden River Works Project
This is a collaborative effort between the City of Malden, community partners, and environmental organizations to transform the DPW facility and surrounding area into a more resilient and community-friendly space.
