Malden seniors and grandchildren celebrate 75th Anniversary of Cinderella at magical community event

Special to The Advocate

In honor of the 75th anniversary of Disney’s “Cinderella,” the City of Malden’s Health & Human Services Department hosted a whimsical Cinderella Birthday Celebration on Friday, August 22, 2025. This intergenerational event brought together Malden seniors and their grandchildren for a day of fairy-tale magic, joyful connection and community spirit. Held at Malden’s Senior Community Center, the event transformed the space into a charming storybook scene, where Cinderella and several of her magical friends delighted guests with special appearances throughout the day.

Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including photo opportunities with the princess, themed coloring stations, and cozy Storytime readings straight from the pages of Cinderella’s tale. One of the most memorable features of the event was a handcrafted wishing well, where guests of all ages were invited to make a wish and share it with Cinderella. The wishing well became a symbol of hope, dreams and imagination — values that have made “Cinderella” a cherished story for generations.

“The Cinderella Birthday Celebration was a truly special moment for our community,” said Public Health Director Laura Vlasuk. “It was wonderful to see grandparents and grandchildren enjoying the magic together, building memories and sharing in the joy of a timeless story.”

The event highlighted the Department’s ongoing commitment to fostering meaningful connections between generations and promoting wellness through creativity and togetherness. The Cinderella celebration was not just a tribute to a classic film, it was a celebration of family, love and the enduring power of dreams.
