News from the City of Malden
Mayor Gary Christenson is reaching out to Malden residents to fill a vacancy on the Malden Cultural Council. Although not a requirement, the Council is hopeful that the new member may consider serving as the Cultural Council clerk. In addition to being a voting member, the clerk is responsible for scheduling and posting meetings as well as taking minutes of meetings and posting them after they are approved. The current vacancy is due to a member relocating out of Malden.
The Malden Cultural Council works to encourage and promote the artistic development of the arts in Malden through state grant program funding. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts through the Mass Cultural Council allocates funds to Malden each year in support of the fine arts, performing art programs, exhibits, festivals and like programs throughout the community. The main responsibility of the Malden Cultural Council is to review local grant applications and award funding to select proposals, as funding permits.
Most meetings are held during grant season (September through December) either on Saturdays or weeknights at a time mutually agreeable to all members. There might be additional meetings during the year on a weeknight, scheduled as necessary. Appointees serve a three-year term.
The City of Malden is driven by the value of excellence and believes that everyone deserves the best service and access to resources, regardless of their race, gender identity, religion, ethnicity, age, physical abilities, sexual orientation, veteran status, or personal experience. We embrace diverse perspectives and welcome candidates from these underrepresented groups to help make our vision a reality.
