The Malden Neighborhood Basketball League (MNBL) is set to mark a major milestone, announcing that its upcoming winter season will be its fortieth. Since its founding in December 1985, the recreational league has provided a vital opportunity for high school-age athletes in the Malden community. The MNBL was established with a singular mission: to offer a structured, private basketball program for high school students who do not play on the official high school teams. Eligibility is open to any high school-age person who either resides in Malden or attends school within the city. Over the past four decades, the league has made a significant impact, giving more than 1,600 young men and women the chance to play competitive, organized basketball in a supportive setting.
“Reaching 40 seasons is a testament to the dedication of our volunteers, the passion of the players and the support from businesses, social clubs and private individuals in this community,” said MNBL President Ken Mazonson. “We are proud to continue this tradition of providing a fun, recreational outlet for high school students who love the game.”
