So sorry for the delay here! We had our first meet Monday and due to the cold, rainy weather we had some scoring mix-ups that needed to be cleared up on Tuesday.

Revere girls track opens with two victories

The Patriots opened the season 2-0, defeating Somerville (68-66) and Lynn Classical (117-13) on Monday, April 7.

“We knew that we were starting off with our hardest meet of the season, and the weather did not make it any easier,” Revere coach Racquel MacDonald-Ciambelli said. “We also were down a fair bit of girls in this meet. This close win truly shows the drive of this team to step up when they are down physically. Mentally, they never let tough conditions or tough meets get the best of them. We’re pretty early on for some extremely impressive times, jumps and throws, but we know those will be coming soon.”

Gemma Stamatopoulos had a perfect meet versus Lynn Classical, taking home four first-place finishes and putting up 20 points for the team. Her first places came in the high jump, long jump, 400 hurdles and 800 meters.

Versus Somerville, she had two first-place finishes (long jump, 800 meters) and two second-place finishes (400 hurdles, high jump) good for 16 points overall. Despite the weather, Stamatopoulos dug in and gave some amazing early-season performances, even jumping a PR of 14-8 in the long jump.

Senior captain Ashley Cabrera Rodriguez also competed in the max four events for Revere. She took first in the triple jump both vs Lynn Classical and Somerville. She placed first in the 100-meter dash versus Lynn Classical and second vs. Somerville. Cabrera Rodriguez took second place in the 400-meter hurdles vs. Lynn Classical.

Rania Hamdani placed first in the 400-meter both vs. Classical and Somerville. She also was the anchor leg for the winning 4×400-meter relay team, which decided the meet finish versus Somerville. She took first place in the discus vs. Lynn Classical.

Distance standout Olivia Rupp took first in the mile in both meets while jogging a 6:14.

“This is so impressive given the weather, knowing that in ideal conditions and with competition Olivia will be easily able to drop back down to her low 5-minute mile times this outdoor season,” MacDonald-Ciambelli said. “Olivia also had a leg in the winning 4×400-meter relay.”

Newcomer to the team Kesley Morales took first in the 100-meter hurdles versus both Somerville and Lynn Classical, with an impressive time of 19.9. Exceptional, her coach said, given the weather and the fact that this was her first time approaching 10 hurdles.

Other first-place finishes for the team included Francoise Kodjo in the shotput vs Lynn Classical (second vs. Somerville), Nisrin Sekkat in the javelin vs. Lynn Classical (second vs. Somerville) and Jaliyah Manigo in the 200-meter vs. Lynn Classical.

  • Marwa Riad in the long jump both vs. Lynn Classical and Somerville
  • Mayahh Ndi in the high jump (third vs. Somerville)
  • Aidah Louaddi in the shotput vs. Lynn Classical (third vs. Somerville)
