Former Saugus Housing Authority Member John Cannon wants to return to the board

PRIOR EXPERIENCE John Cannon candidate for Saugus Housing Authority-2

My name is John Cannon and I am a candidate for the Board of Commissioners (BOC) of the Saugus Housing Authority. I am a veteran and have resided in Saugus for over 40 years, and for many years have been deeply involved in the Saugus community. As a former longtime (35+years) business owner I am very familiar with every aspect of business management.

If elected to the Board of Commissioners I will maintain full transparency, a strong fiduciary responsibility, a good quality of life for the tenants of the Saugus Housing Authority and I will perform in the best interest of the people of Saugus. I would also like to introduce an educational program for the residents of Saugus to better understand the Saugus Housing Authority’s role in the community.

Since September 2015 I have attended all but 5 of the Board of Commissioners meetings. I wanted to learn and understand the general operation of the Saugus Housing Authority, Both the simple and complex issues and as a former business owner, I became very interested in both the business operation and the tenants of Saugus Housing. I never wanted to draw a conclusion without understanding the situation or the probable solution.

I became a Board member in 2016 to fill a vacancy and within 3 months I was unanimously voted Chairman by other Board members. While serving on the BOC I had a 100% attendance record to all Board of Commissioners meetings. I have also attended many Public Housing Conferences and as many Public Housing Training classes as offered to better understand the issue of public housing and affordable housing (40B & 40R). In regards to Public Housing, have completed training and received Certificates from,

  • Mel King Institute for Community Building
  • Mel King Institute of Public Housing Budget Management
  • MA. Union of Public Housing Tenants
  • MA. Association of Community Development
  • MA. Attorney General’s Office
  • MA Office of the Inspector General
  • MA. Certified Public Purchasing Program

  My community involvement includes:

  • The Saugus Housing Authority, former Chairman
  • The Veterans Food Bank
  • The Affordable Housing Trust Committee, Chairman
  • A member of the Saugus Zoning Board of Commissioners
  • The Saugus Veterans Council
  • The American Legion, an Athletic Director of the American Legion Baseball League
  • The American Legion Breakfast.

If elected to the Board of Commissioners I will maintain full transparency, a very strong fiduciary responsibility, an excellent quality of life for the tenants of the Saugus Housing Authority and to perform in the best interest of the people of the Town of Saugus. I also plan to introduce an educational program for the residents of Saugus to better understand the Saugus Housing Authority’s role in the community. I also seek alternate revenue sources of income such as grants and community involvement.

I believe my Public Housing experience, long term dedication, tenacity, former business training and continuous education in Public Housing is an asset for the community and the Saugus Housing Authority.

I ask for your vote on Tuesday, November. 02, 2021. I am second on the ballot. Thank You!
