The April meeting of the Melrose Arts & Crafts Society took place on April 24 at First Baptist Church in Melrose. Members could choose from one class where they made terrariums and another was a class on making hand-held fans. Terrariums were invented by an English botanist in 1842. The hand-held fans can be traced to ancient Egypt. Japan acquired fans through trade in 637. Today, everyone can design terrariums and hand-held fans. Our members enjoyed making them both!
The Society collected crocheted and knitted baby blankets made by several members. They will be donated to the Maternity Ward at MelroseWakefield Hospital for preemies and newborns. Other members sewed and stuffed teddy bears to be donated to the Emergency Room.
During the short business meeting, it was announced that dues for next year are $25 and the May 22, 2023, Presidents Luncheon costs $30. Please send your checks in as soon as possible. If you are considering joining the Society, come to the Presidents Luncheon, where you will meet most of the members. Call Dorothy Iudice, Membership Chair, at 781-662-2099 for more information. We hope to see you soon!
