Everett wins golden ticket with Keverian School Drama Club’s production ofWilly Wonka JR.’

Students to present magical musical based on the award-winning book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl

The Keverian School Drama Club students will transport Everett to a “world of pure imagination” with their production of “Willy Wonka JR.,” a musical based on Roald Dahl’s timeless children’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it was announced by Drew Cohen, President of Music Theatre International (MTI).

In Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka JR.,” a world-famous, reclusive candy man named Willy Wonka (played by eighth-grader Sarah Jasmin) announces that he will offer the tour of the lifetime through his secret chocolate factory to five children who find a golden ticket in one of his world-famous candy bars. One ticket-holder will also win a lifetime supply of chocolate. Against all odds, an impoverished but sweet-natured boy named Charlie Bucket (played by sixth-grader Darrias Reno-Dickerson) wins a golden ticket. He and his fellow tour members – the spoiled-rotten Victor Salt (played by seventh-grader Kevin Pham, gluttonous Augustus Gloop (played by seventh-grader Gavin Mauldin-Hopkins), gum-chewing Violet Beauregarde (played by sixth-grader Tori Short) and television obsessed Michaela Teavee (played by seventh-grader Brianna Lamrique) – spend a day traveling with the mysterious and marvelous Willy Wonka and his crew of Oompa Loompas through the fantastical factory. The children encounter marvelous sights and tastes along the way, including giant nut-selecting squirrels, fizzy lifting drinks, Everlasting Gobstoppers and a chocolate river. But each stop proves to be a test, as only one child can go on to win the prize.

Everett will have its own tour of Willy Wonka’s secret factory on Thursday, May 11, and Friday, May 12, at the Everett High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. Golden tickets are $1 for students, EPS staff and seniors over 50 years old and $5 for adults over 18 years old. Tickets are purchased at the door and by cash only. For more information, please email bmitchell@everett.k12.ma.us
