Mayor Gary Christenson accompanied Kevin Larson, the brother of the late Ed Larson, to the Malden Warming Center to donate 800 pairs of socks paid for with funds raised by the foundation established in Ed’s memory. Ed passed away suddenly in 2014 at 55 years old. He was a lifelong resident of Malden, a Malden High School graduate of the Class of 1977, a member of numerous local organizations and a former Hall of Famer and treasurer of the Intercity Baseball League.

“Pastor Whetstone and I are grateful to Kevin and his family for providing this very important donation in Ed’s name,” said Christenson. “Socks are the number one requested item at warming centers and shelters.”

The Malden Warming Center seeks to serve those experiencing homelessness by providing a safe shelter and warmth during the winter months, recognizing each person’s inherent dignity and unique circumstance. The Center offers comfort, hot drinks and a hot meal. As much as possible, warm clothing and toiletries are available, and the staff works to connect guests to needed services, including permanent housing, substance abuse treatment and health and mental health services.
