Four arrested, two guns seized after armed robbery near Malden public housing complex

One armed suspect taken into custody after struggle with officers

  Four suspects were arrested and two handguns were confiscated after Malden Police responded to a report of an armed robbery in the Bowdoin Street area the night of October 21. One of the suspects, allegedly armed with a gun, was taken into custody following a struggle with a Malden Police detective at the scene.

  Police were called to the area of the Bowdoin Street public housing early Thursday night following a call concerning a possible armed robbery. According to police, Det. Montina and Patrolmen McGahey, Kessler and DiCarlo and others responded to the call, and after they searched the area, four suspects, including one juvenile, were arrested in connection with the alleged armed robbery. According to reports, a struggle ensued between one of the men and Det. Montina during a confrontation, and Officers McGahey, Kessler and DiCarlo came to his aid. Police said a gun was found in the suspect’s possession and a second gun was seized during a follow-up investigation.

  In a statement following the incident, police said, “The Malden Police Department commends these brave officers and detectives, whom continue to combat gun violence and make our communities safer.”

  The suspects’ names have not been released by police pending further investigation and results of their court appearances, and the nature of charges brought against them were not immediately available.
