Joint Easter Celebrations at First Baptist Church of Malden and Maplewood Baptist Church First Ever Multi-Cultural Easter Sunrise Service Outside on Church Lawn

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Malden, Massachusetts, March 2024- The First Baptist Church of Malden and the Maplewood Baptist Church invite the Malden community to join us for two special joint, family-friendly Easter Services on Sunday, March 31.  Beginning at 7:00 a.m. outside on the church lawn, there will be a multi-cultural Sunrise Service with several local churches, celebrating Jesus’ resurrection in their native languages, along with members from First Baptist and Maplewood Baptist. Then at 11:00 a.m., we’ll gather inside for the Easter Worship Service. First Baptist Church is located on the corner of Salem and Main streets.

“We’re told in the scriptures that it was early in the morning that some women made their way to the tomb of Jesus – only to be asked this “question of questions” by one they thought was merely a cemetery care-taker: ‘Why are you seeking the living dead among the dead?’”  Just as these followers of Christ met him, ALIVE, and in person on that first Easter day, we plan to meet Him in worship early on the one upcoming with others from the congregations that worship weekly in the First Baptist Building.  We’ll be on the lawn at 7 AM, bundled up if it’s cold (and indoors if it’s raining).  The scriptures speak of an upcoming service of worship in heaven attended by folks of “every nation, tongue, and tribe (Revelation 7:9).  We may very well have a tiny taste of that early on Easter morning!”

Our Holy Week celebrations begin on Palm Sunday, March 24 with our Palm Sunday Worship Service beginning at 11:00 a.m.  Pastor McClenthen will be continuing his Holy Season theme “Who Am I?” based on the 7 “I am” claims made by Jesus as to who He was and why He came.   Later that afternoon at 3:00 p.m., First Baptist Malden will host the 36th Annual Ecumenical Palm Sunday Concert, “The Seven Last Words of Christ” by Theodore Dubois. Under the direction of Rosalind Mohnsen, Director of Music and Organist at Immaculate

Conception Church of Malden/Medford, members of choirs from different denominations throughout Malden will share in song the seven last words of Jesus. All are welcome to attend this community concert. Please enter through the church doors on the parking lot side (493 Main Street) behind the church. A FREE will donation will be received should you choose to participate.

On Thursday, March 28th at 7:00 p.m., we will be celebrating the “Last Supper” during our Holy Thursday Service.

On Friday, March 29th   at 7:00 p.m., we will join with other Malden churches at the Freedom Hill Community Church, 77 Kennedy Drive, for a combined evening of reflection and readings around the lighting and extinguishing of “Seven Candles”.  Scriptures telling the story of that dark night will be read, songs sung, and the Lord’s Supper observed.
