A 19-year-old Malden teen was killed late Tuesday night when the SUV she was driving crashed in Wilmington. Mattie Fitzgerald, who was a recent graduate of Northeast Metro Tech in Wakefield this past June, was identified as the victim of the late night crash. The cause of the fatal accident had not been determined by Advocate press time. The tragic crash is being investigated by Wilmington Police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section.

According to an online report, Mattie was “a sweetheart with a sweet soul that had her life cut way too short.”

A friend whose name was withheld said of Mattie in the same report, “She left an impact on people even if they knew her for just a short time and will be dearly missed.”

According to a Middlesex District Attorney’s Office report, at about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wilmington Police responded to a report of a vehicle identified as a Chevy Traverse, off the road in the area of 411 Salem St. Investigating officers found that the vehicle was occupied by a single individual, the operator, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
