The Melrose Arts & Crafts Society will start its 118th year on September 19 from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 12:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on 561 Main St. in Melrose. This year there will be two new co-presidents, Janice Carr, a longtime member and Melrose resident, and Georgette Petraglia, a longtime member and Malden resident.
The members of the society have been busy making many handmade items this past year. Teddy bears were given to the Melrose Police and Fire Departments, the Malden organization Bread of Life and a local Saugus group supporting Ukraine. Besides teddy bears, knitted, crocheted and fleece blankets were also donated to Bread of Life and the Saugus group.
At the September 19 monthly meeting, the traditional Ice Cream Social will be held, which is very popular and enjoyed by all. There will be new classes, projects and programs this year. Hopefully, new members, too! All from Melrose or any of the 10 surrounding communities are welcome. If interested, please call Dorothy Iudice at 781-662-2099. Hope to see you.
