Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper recently toured the Malden River Works project site which has been awarded a $2.99 million grant from the state’s Municipal Vulnerability Program.

Among those on hand to celebrate the grant award was Mayor Gary Christenson, State Senator Jason Lewis, members of the River Works steering committee including its chair Marcia Manong and architect Marie Law Adams and staff from the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development which is helping to administer the project.

The Malden River Works Project site, located at 356 Commercial St., is a five-acre riverfront parcel that is home to the Department of Public Works (DPW). Several years ago, the city agreed to consider the introduction of public open space along the river’s edge as part of this project. The goal is to create a climate resilient waterfront park for all on the Malden River.
