The kindergarten classes at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS) recently celebrated the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln while also fulfilling a key part of the school’s mission in a recent community service initiative. Steeped in American culture, the school incorporates key values and ideals of our culture into daily character education lessons and general curriculum.

Paying homage to Lincoln’s generosity and to commemorate his birthday in mid-February, the school held a fundraiser to benefit a local organization, the Malden Warming Center (MWC), which is located across the street from the school’s kindergarten campus. The MWC is a collaborative service providing a safe, warm place for those experiencing homelessness during the winter months.

The endeavor entailed students bringing in a penny (bearing Lincoln’s image), and anonymous donors did the rest. Monies raised went directly toward the donation of food and snacks for guests at the MWC.
