A traffic stop on one of Malden’s busiest streets led to the arrest of a driver on nearly a dozen alleged offenses, including drug trafficking, gun-related and motor vehicle-related charges. Malden Police arrested Devyne Yosantos Germain after he was pulled over driving on Salem Street at about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 by Ptl. Blake Ferry. The suspect, 35, was detained after being stopped at the corner of Porter and Salem Streets. Malden Police Officers Scott Chalmers, Dave Kessler and Cam Selfridge also assisted in making the arrest, according to reports.
Police said quantities of various drugs, including crack cocaine, oxycontin Adderall — and also a firearm — were found to be in Germain’s possession in the vehicle Also seized as evidence by police was an undetermined sum of cash. Police said the illegal firearm was found stashed in a child’s car seat after a search of the vehicle.
Malden Police arrested Germain and charged him with trafficking a Class B substance of 18 or more grams; possession with intention to distribute Class B and E drugs; possession of a large capacity firearm, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, firearm use in a felony, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a large capacity feeding device; possession in felony of a firearm with a defaced serial number; operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license; a license plate violation; and failure to wear a seat belt.
“If you’re thinking about interacting with these officers and attempting to hide drugs, it’s probably not going to work out the way you hoped,” the department stated in a message on “X” social media. “Consider this your friendly reminder, again: don’t push drugs in Malden.”
