Freshman righty Ryan Bowdridge struck out the side with bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the seventh to seal an 8-6 win for Malden (3-1) over defending GBL Champ Lynn Classical in soggy and wet Fraser Field on Wednesday night under the lights.

“What an effort by Bowdridge and also our other two pitchers senior Jake Simpson and sophomore Ryan McMahon as all of them worked out of jams all night,” said Malden coach Steve Freker. “It was our biggest win since this coaching staff returned to Malden eight years ago against a good Lynn Classical team.”

“Coach Mike DiCato did a fantastic job handling the pitchers and catchers, and coach Phil Cook managed the defense perfectly. We hit the ball all night and it was a really big win,” Coach Freker added.

Malden (3-1, 2-1 GBL) is on the road Monday at 10 a.m. at Revere and then hosts the Ninth Christie Serino Memorial Tournament next week – at Greater Lawrence Vocational on Thursday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m. – and hosts East Boston Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Pine Banks Park.

Malden smashed the ball all night Wednesday with 15 hits, led by a bases-loaded triple by Ezechiel Noelsaint and the game-winning RBI single by McMahon. Bowdridge and Chris Macdonald both had two hits and two RBIs. Senior Captain Simpson had two hits as did sophomore Billy Gavin.

Malden High softball team gets second win, tops Chelsea

Malden High softball Head Coach Rebecca Krigman’s Tornados hit the ball early and often in a 14-1 win over Chelsea at Callahan Park on Monday.

Boys volleyball improved to 3-1 with a victory over Chelsea on Monday and a win over Arlington in a non-league matchup on Tuesday. Tornado girls lacrosse won its first game Tuesday, 11-10 over Medford on the road in overtime.

Lucky 7s for Robertson and Kruckenberg in 16-2 win over Revere

It was a lucky night for two Malden High players in a 16-2 win at home over Revere on Tuesday at Macdonald Stadium. Senior captains Chad Robertson and Saul Kruckenberg each scored a whopping seven goals apiece to pace the win. Junior Ben Rosa was solid in the net for Malden with seven saves. Rosa is the all-time career Malden goalie save leader.
