The YMN Twister’s, the YMCA of Metro North’s gymnastics team, which includes gymnasts from Saugus, competed in an annual YMCA state championship that drew competitors across the region.

Saugus residents placed fourth and fifth overall in the weekend competition.

“The gymnasts have worked hard all year to make this competition and have obtained their qualifying score in order to compete,” said Saugus YMCA spokesperson Sandy St. Louis. “There are 10 teams competing from across the states of Mass, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.”

Roughly 400 gymnasts competed over the course of three days. Every other meet will be virtual this year, according to St. Louis. This was the only in-person Tri-State and the first since 2019.
