Town reports 56 newly confirmed cases over the past seven days, no new deaths

The number of newly confirmed cases rose from 41 last week to 56 over the past seven days through yesterday (Thursday, April 21), according to Town Manager Scott C. Crabtree. This week’s positive COVID cases reported to the town by the state Department of Public Health (DPH) increased the overall total to 8,786 confirmed cases, according to Crabtree.

In addition, the overall number of deaths since March of 2020 remained at 89. Six weeks ago, total Saugus deaths related to COVID-19 were listed at 106. But that number was reduced to 88 because of a change in the guidelines used by health officials.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to those families affected by this health pandemic,” Crabtree said.

Meanwhile, with Saugus Public Schools on vacation this week, there were no numbers available on confirmed COVID-19 cases in the school district’s three buildings

The number of new cases reported two weeks ago (during the period March 31 to April 6) increased to 28 cases last week (during the period of April 7-13).
