Of Saugus, formerly of Lynn. Died on Thursday, September 21st at the Lawrence Memorial hospital in Medford at the age of 93. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis (LoRusso) Raftelis with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born and raised in Lynn, Mr. Raftelis was the son of the late Theodore and Despena (Koutalelis) Raftelis. A U.S. Marine Veteran of the Korean War, Nicholas was a former security guard for the Middlesex County Jail and also a former hairdresser. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and playing cards, but most of all, family was everything to him.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Raftelis is survived by his son, Theodore Raftelis and his wife Julie of Saugus; three grandchildren, Arianna, Thea and Nicholas; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter Raftelis and four sisters, Elsie Baletsa, Irene Samarco, Sadie Crowley and Cali Raftelis.
Relatives and friends were invited to attend visiting hours in the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, Saugus on Tuesday, September 26. A funeral was held from the funeral home on Wednesday followed by a funeral liturgy at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Lynn. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
